‘It’s ongoing’: Sean Dyche thinks Everton will agree a new deal with £55k-a-week player, he’s spoken to him

Everton have a lot of business to contend with this summer, most of which will be so important for the club.

Given their precarious financial situation, mass outgoings may be forced.

However, a key benefit they boast is that plenty of high-earners are due to leave anyway in the coming months for free at the expiry of their deals.

Of all those currently set for an exit though, one man surely deserves at least one more year.

Sean Dyche delivers Seamus Coleman update

Speaking at his press conference earlier today, Sean Dyche was upfront when asked about one particular contract situation.

After all, Saturday marks Everton’s last home game of the season, and for many, it might therefore be their final time to say goodbye to Goodison Park.

It would certainly be a crying shame if that were to be the case with Seamus Coleman, to not receive the raucous send-off he richly deserves.

The £55k-a-week Republic of Ireland international has delivered nearly 15 years of immaculate service for this football club, and is a living legend despite his recent injury struggles.

So, when quizzed about his expiring contract, Dyche’s update was a positive one: ‘No he’s been great but it’s ongoing I think. I’ve already spoken to him about his view, I mean there’s a couple of weeks left but said reflect on where you’re at. I think his thirst is to keep playing, so we’ll be looking into that.

‘So I don’t think there’s any reason to wonder about his last game, or not at this stage, and certainly that’s his words, not mine. He’s made it clear that at this stage his mindset is to keep playing.’

Everton have plenty of expiring contracts to deal with

Coleman’s may be the most important, given his longevity and iconic status on Merseyside, but he is not the only star set to depart Goodison this summer for free.

Ashley Young is another veteran whose one-year deal expires soon, but given how often Dyche has called upon the 38-year-old, it would be a surprise to see him depart.

However, one person who very likely will leave is Andre Gomes, who has struggled to make his mark despite marking impeccable business at the time, brought in from Barcelona after a fine loan spell.

A majestic central midfielder with all the quality in the world, a string of injuries saw his speed stolen, and he was never the same following.

Dele Alli is another who has seen his career curtailed by injuries, and should also leave this summer.

Idrissa Gana Gueye has likely done enough to warrant another year given his recent fine form.
