United Airlines Holdings Inc. canceled more flights than any other airline totaling 751 on Wednesday. The Denver International Airport was hit the hardest among all the airports. Scott Kirby, the Chief Executive Officer of United, was able to overcome this by flying with a private airplane from Teterboro Airport to Denver. Kirby released a statement with his apologies. “Taking a private jet was the wrong decision because it was insensitive to our customers who were waiting to get home,” he wrote. “I sincerely apologize to our customers and our team members who have been working around-the-cl...

New York (AFP) - US aviation officials have taken steps to avert a repeat of January's emergency grounding, but a top regulator said Wednesday that a meaningful system upgrade won't be ready before 2025. Billy Nolen, acting head of the Federal Aviation Administration, attributed the nationwide January 11 grounding of commercial planes to a mistake by a contract employee, who deleted computer files needed for a key air safety system. The agency has taken steps, including strengthening backup systems and ensuring the presence of a second staff person during database work, that should "prevent a ...

New York (AFP) - The computer glitch that forced the temporary suspension last week of US domestic airline departures was caused by a contractor mistakenly deleting files, the country's aviation regulator said Thursday. Damage to a database file had already been pinpointed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a probable cause of the January 11 issue, which prompted flight cancellations and delays nationwide. During the hours-long outage, pilots could not access the system known as Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM), which provides information about hazards, changes to airport facilities...

New York (AFP) - Aviation authorities were racing Wednesday to figure out what caused the outage of a crucial alert system that forced the temporary halt on all US domestic takeoffs, triggering thousands of delays and cancellations. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said normal operations were being restored but the early morning halt created knock-on effects that snarled travel throughout the day. The grounding order was issued after the FAA identified an issue with the Notice to Air Missions system (NOTAM), which provides information to pilots about hazards, changes to airport fac...

The Federal Aviation Administration is proposing fines of up to half a million dollars for unruly airline passengers who refused to wear masks or attacked flight attendants. The FAA announced on Thursday that the 34 passengers accused of unruly conduct would be fined $531,545 each. House Transportation Chairman Peter DeFazio is proposing even harsher punishment for unruly or violent passengers: “The first time we take one of these jerks who is assaulting flight attendants or attempting to take an aircraft down – and they go away for a few years and they get a massive fine – I think that will s...

Washington (AFP) - US air safety regulators will open a review of operations at Boeing after feedback from inspectors assigned to provide oversight for the government showed many feel unable to share their concerns. The findings have echoes of the issues surrounding the aviation giant's 737 MAX, which suffered two crashes in 2018 and 2019 that claimed 346 lives and led to a 20-month grounding of the aircraft. In the wake of the tragedies, Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) came under intense scrutiny from Congress and the public for their close relationship during the airplan...

The Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S. warned airlines on Thursday over a pair of cabin air pressure switches on Boeing (NYSE:BA)’s 737 planes. The safety agency states that the devices need inspection as their malfunctioning could pose a safety threat. Q2 2021 hedge fund letters, conferences and more Airlines to Take Immediate ActionAs informed by The New York Times, should the switches fail, “oxygen levels could fall dangerously low inside a plane without warning,” hence incapacitating flight crews from controlling the aircraft.
