LSU athletics has captured a handful of national championships in the past calendar year. In 2023, their baseball and women’s basketball programs brought home Natty’s in their respective fields. This year, the women’s gymnastics team kept the title parades in Baton Rouge, LA, going after they won the program’s first-ever title. LSU’s women’s basketball coach, Kim Mulkey, knows a thing or two about winning a program’s first-ever title, as that is exactly what she and the Tigers did last season. During LSU’s women’s gymnastics championship celebration, Mulkey was there to embrace and congratulat...

The LSU Tigers won this year’s women’s gymnastics national championship. A large part of that was because of the success of the team’s seniors, which in turn means head coach Jay Clark needs to find a way to replace their production. Despite that challenge facing Clark, he’s going into the offseason incredibly optimistic about next year’s LSU gymnastics team. “I feel really good about the team we have coming back next year,” Jay Clark said. “Their role will continue to increase and get more and more. I think they’re tremendous, but I feel incredibly optimistic about what we have coming back an...

Washington (AFP) - The United States Justice Department said Tuesday it had agreed to pay almost $139 million to victims of sex abuser Larry Nassar, for its bungled investigation into the former USA Gymnastics team doctor. For nearly two decades, Nassar subjected hundreds of people to abuse under the guise of performing medical treatment. His victims included Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and other top names in the sport. Despite complaints, the FBI initially did not act, and Nassar continued to act with impunity. He was ultimately convicted in late 2017 and...

LSU gymnast Kiya Johnson never stopped believing in her goal to become a national champion, no matter how many obstacles got in her way. After tearing her left Achilles in high school, Johnson fought back to join the Tigers in 2020. She immediately became one of the most integral parts of the team, earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors. Johnson continued to shine the following season to take home the SEC Specialist of the Year. It all seemed to be going according to plan as she entered her senior season before she suffered an injury to her right Achilles in January of 2023. Johnson made a pr...

LSU women’s gymnastics hoisted a national championship trophy on Saturday and one of its biggest stars quickly sounded off on social media as senior Livvy Dunne celebrated the win. In a series of Instagram stories, Dunne celebrated the achievement of her and her teammates. The LSU women’s gymnastics team is bringing home a national title, besting a crowded field of competitors. And it helps LSU shed an ignominious title: The best program to never be national champions. That reality is no longer. And the Tigers got over the hump by a narrow margin. The Tigers were pushed to the edge by Cal, Utah and Florida, but neither of the Pac-12 outfits or their SEC rival could match the team effort from the Tigers. “I love these kids so much and they did everything we asked them to, all year long,” head coach Jay Clark said on the ABC broadcast after the win. “They never co...

The LSU gymnastics team is in the final leg of their quest to finish off this year as champions of the college gymnastics world. The Tigers are dangerously close as they find themselves in a tight contest down the stretch where Utah, California, and Florida. As LSU prepares for its final rotation, head coach Jay Clark revealed his message to the team as they push towards capturing the national championship. “It’s just stay focused on what we’re doing. And it’s the same message that I give them all the time. We’re three down; we got one to go. We knew this thing was gonna be tough. it’s suppose...

Washington (AFP) - The Justice Department is to pay $100 million to settle claims against the FBI for mishandling the investigation into sexual abuse by former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The newspaper said the settlement involves 100 victims of Nassar, who was convicted in late 2017 and early 2018 of sexually assaulting hundreds of athletes and is serving up to 175 years in prison. Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and other US gymnasts filed a $1 billion claim against the FBI in June 2022 over its failure...
