The NBA has fined Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid $35,000 for his recent celebration against the Portland Trail Blazers. During the celebration, Embiid was seen doing a “crotch chop” after hitting a layup. The move resembled the “Suck It” celebration made popular by WWE’s D-Generation X. The 76ers ended up winning the game 126-98, with Embiid finishing with 35 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and six blocked shots. After Embiid’s fine was announced, WWE legend Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H invited the NBA Star to Wrestlemania 40, which will be held in Philadelphia in April 2...

Recent reports suggest that Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden will opt out of his contract with the team to test free agency this offseason. Harden signed a two-year deal with the team in 2021 and would have received $35.6 million in a third-year option. Following a 2021-22 season in which the 76ers lost to the Miami Heat in the conference semifinals, Harden took a $15 million pay cut in order to make space for the team to build around him and MVP Joel Embiid. The team lost again in the conference semifinals this season, however. Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes reported that Harden now wants...

Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden is expected to miss a month of action after suffering a tendon strain to his right foot in a game against the Washington Wizards Wednesday. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks but could miss up to 15 regular season games. News of Harden’s injury further dampened a down night for the Sixers, who were entering their game against the Wizards on a three-game winning streak. Following a poor start to the season, the team’s defeat to Washington and temporary loss of Harden only exacerbate those early concerns. Though he finished the game, scoring 24 points on 1...

Following a 1-4 start to the 2022-23 season, the Philadelphia 76ers’ offense has been exposed as anemic and unoriginal, the primary cause for the team’s poor performances through five games. For a team featuring stars Joel Embiid and James Harden, it’s a vast departure from what many might have expected. As individuals, Embiid and Harden have not performed poorly, averaging 27.6 and 25.0 points per game, respectively. Tyrese Maxey has also been a profoundly helpful contributor, scoring 20 points per game. But the problem with the team is more fundamental than any individual’s production. In fi...

If 11 games with at least 40 points and 10 rebounds—including 44 and 17 with 17 free throws and five blocks in Sunday’s 112-108 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers—this season isn’t enough to win MVP, what is? That’s the question the Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid has been asking himself. Only Russell Westbrook (12) and Moses Malone (12) have had more “40+ and 10+” games in a season since the merger (1976-77)—and both won MVPs in those seasons. “If it happens, great,” Embiid said. “If it doesn’t, I don’t know what I have to do. I’ll feel like they hate me. I feel like the standard for guys i...

Joel Embiid tied his career high with 50 points—in just 27 minutes—to carry the Philadelphia 76ers to a 123-110 victory over the Orlando Magic Wednesday. Embiid added 12 rebounds and three blocks while going 17 of 23 from the floor and 15 of 17 from the charity stripe. “My teammates just found me,” Embiid said. “And I did the rest.” ESPN research shows that Embiid’s 27:03 of game time ranks as second lowest in a 50-point game in the shot clock era; the Warriors’ Klay Thompson had 52 points on October 29, 2018, in just 26:33 of playing time. Tobias Harris added 21 for the 76ers, who have won ni...

For the first time since 1982, the NBA is not playing with the Spalding basketballs, this has caused controversy among players as they have been using with Spalding balls for most of their professional careers. Everyone is having to adjust to the new Wilson balls on the fly, and it might not be going so well. Shooting is down across the board. Entering play on Thursday, the league is shooting a collective .343 percent from 3. That would rank as the lowest mark this century, and the league’s 44.8 overall shooting percentage would be the lowest mark since 2004. Anthony Davis is shooting 15 perce...

With the NBA regular season set to kick off in less than a month, Ben Simmons and the 76ers organization have still yet to resolve their months-long standoff. Simmons hasn’t reported to training camp and has made it clear that he will not be putting on a Philadelphia uniform this season. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi, the three-time all-star hasn’t been in contact with the organization since a late August meeting during which he reiterated his reluctance to play ball until he’s traded. The 76ers have held numerous trade talks since the end of their disappointing playoff run. Much of t...
