Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway attracted 4.307 million viewers, Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal reported Tuesday. Though slightly down 5% from the 4.554 million who tuned in for the spring race at Talladega last year, NASCAR was the second most-watched sport of the weekend after two NBA playoff games. Sunday’s race was tame by Talladega standards for the first two stages, but as it typically does, heated up in the third and final stage. Coming out of Turn 4 on the final lap, it was Michael McDowell leading the field. McDowell seemingly had control until Brad Keselowski mad...

This weekend for the Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway, Bubba Wallace has a brand new paint scheme to honor military veterans. Based on the famous Flying Tigers who flew in WWII, the scheme is tied to a new TV ad Xfinity will debut during the NASCAR race. 23XI Racing and the Air Force struck a new deal for 2024. The U.S. Air Force had been partnered with the Petty family for years. In fact, Bubba Wallace spent three years with the Air Force as his sponsor during his time with Petty GMS. When Bubba Wallace got together with the design team, he knew what he wanted. The old Warthog scheme. Howeve...

Denny Hamlin fell victim to a puddle on the racetrack during Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Hamlin, part of a seven-car pack to hit pit road at once, got loose while deaccelerating to pit road speed and made slight contact with John Hunter Nemechek. Hamlin told his team he hit a puddle coming onto pit road, thus causing his spin. Speaking on his “Actions Detrimental” podcast, Hamlin explained how the puddle was there in the first place, as NASCAR has long dried the racetrack after heavy rain all weekend in the area. “It’s a little hard to avoid because they weren’t there until ...

Denny Hamlin never thought that he would be competing in NASCAR and owning a racing team at the time same. On his Actions Detrimental podcast, the 43-year-old talked about being a co-owner of 23XI Racing with NBA legend Michael Jordan. “I never envisioned my life would have ended up this way,” Hamlin said. It’s just hard to put it into words, for sure.” Hamlin did not win the Geico 500 at Talladega on Sunday as he was involved in an accident that ended his day early. But he still came out a winner because Tyler Reddick, a driver for 23XI Racing, earned the victory. Everyone from the team celeb...

As it tends to happen on superspeedways, Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega came down to the final lap. And coming out of Turn 4, it was pole-sitter Michael McDowell leading the field as he had done for 36 laps throughout Sunday’s race. McDowell had control of the race until Brad Keselowski, running second at the time, shot up the racetrack and then back down, looking to get past McDowell. That prompted McDowell to go for the double block, a move which didn’t pay off. McDowell failed to clear Keselowski on the bottom, spinning back towards the wall and collecting the bulk of the field with him. T...

23XI Racing co-owner and NBA legend Michael Jordan was in attendance to see his driver, Tyler Reddick, win the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday. Jordan celebrated with Reddick’s four-year son Beau as Reddick did his burnout on the frontstretch at Talladega and later joined the team in victory lane. Former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty spoke on the impact of Jordan being present for the victory celebration, calling it a “huge moment for the sport.” “That’s huge for me,” Petty said. “That is huge for this sport. When we go back to last week and we see our most popular driver, Chase Elli...

Other than Tyler Reddick, who raced his way to victory lane in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, there was no more happier person at the racetrack than Michael Jordan. Jordan, the NBA legend and co-owner of 23XI Racing, was finally in attendance to see one of his drivers win and was on hand for the celebration afterwards. Reddick’s four-year-old son Beau was even up in the arms of Jordan while Reddick did his victory burnout on the front straightaway at Talladega. Now three years since 23XI began competing in the NASCAR Cup Series, the upstart team has six wins, with Reddick captu...

Denny Hamlin is noticing one big issue with the NASCAR Cup Series. On his Actions Detrimental podcast, the three-time Daytona 500 winner talked about how a driver’s skillset is getting close to not playing into success in NASCAR. “Cup racing, oh my gosh, it is a whole other thing now,” Hamlin said. “I hate to say that skill is almost not a factor anymore, but it’s getting close to that. You have skill in the Xfinity Series, and when you get runs Tony Stewart always used to tell me do whatever you got to do to keep the run going. When you get a massive run, if you can keep your run going by pus...

We will never be able to talk about this Talladega race without talking about Michael Jordan celebrating in Victory Lane. Denny Hamlin was there with his 23XI Racing co-owner in what made for a unique moment in NASCAR. Tyler Reddick delivered the first win of the season and the fifth win all-time for 23XI Racing. He now has three wins since joining the organization in 2023. He has been impressive this season, but his win at Talladega might be his most memorable performance. As co-owner, Denny Hamlin knew how much it meant to MJ to get that win while at the track. It made for a fun celebration ...

A wild weekend in Talladega gives us things to think about. But how much should we credit or punish drivers in the NASCAR Power Rankings this week? After all, Dega is a crapshoot for most of the drivers out there, and the finish on Sunday was no different. Tyler Reddick was able to keep his momentum as Michael McDowell went across the nose of Brad Keselowski on an ill-advised block. Keselowski and Noah Gragson were slowed up just enough by the 34. Reddick went right on by and stole the checkered flag right from under them. While the finish was thrilling, the fuel-saving wasn’t. Perhaps a tweak...
