The PGA Tour filed a countersuit against LIV Golf and three players Wednesday, claiming that the Saudi Arabian organization offered “astronomical” salaries to players in order to convince them to breach their old contracts. It is yet another lawsuit in an ongoing battle between the two tours. The PGA’s countersuit is in response to a lawsuit filed by LIV and three players for antitrust violations. Responding to LIV players’ claims that the PGA abused its monopoly powers, the PGA responded in its new suit that LIV has “openly sought to damage the Tour’s business relationships with its members b...

Text messages between golfer Sergio Garcia and LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman were released as part of the lawsuit filed by LIV golfers in response to the ban on LIV golfers from competing in PGA Tour events and majors. In the messages, dating back to February, Garcia explains to Norman the PGA tour’s plan to eventually ban golfers. Garcia had initiated a conversation on February 11 saying, “I just wanted to see how things are going with the League, cause it seems like a lot of those guys that were loving it and excited about it last week, now are shi–ing in their pants.” Norman replied saying, “Wh...

LIV Golf’s newest golfers are hearing criticism on all sides after joining its Invitational Series. Northern Irish golfer Graeme McDowell said that he continues to receive death threats and messages telling him to “go die” after he joined the Saudi-financed tour. The newest tour is backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), a fund run by chairman Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. Many golfers have been criticized for joining the tour, being portrayed as money-grabbing. McDowell had previously been asked about the idea of accepting money from the controversial...

Tiger Woods has achieved numerous accolades with the PGA Tour, and now the golfing legend is opting to stay in with the PGA Tour despite an offer from the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. According to LIV Golf Investments CEO, Greg Norman, Woods turned down a huge offer to play in the league. The offer was, “mind-blowingly enormous, we’re talking about high nine digits,” Norman said. Despite the size of the offer, Woods said that he would not leave the PGA Tour amidst the exodus of star players from the PGA Tour to the new upstart league. The LIV Golf International Series is a new league led by N...

Beam me up, Scottie. Or, at the very least, let me try on your green jacket! World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler made short work of the final three rounds of the 2022 Masters to win his first major on a 10-under (278) finish with a record $2.7 million payout. It was his fourth PGA Tour win this season—all of which have come in the last 57 days—after failing to win the first 70 PGA events of his career. Tiger Woods came in lower on the leaderboard but his comeback was still considered a success after his major car crash last year. He joins Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Woods (2001,...

The hecklers have moved on to golf from basketball, it seems. This time it was Brooks Koepka getting into it with a “fan” after last Saturday’s action of the World Golf Championships (WGC)-Dell Technologies Match Play tournament in Austin, Texas. Video shows the golfer grabbing a man’s phone after he beat world number one, Jon Rahm. The fan is filming incredibly close to the 28-year-old golfer’s face and tries to chat him up. Koepka then rips the phone away and says, “Get it out of my face, man! Get it out of my face!” The phone was immediately returned, but Koepka went on to lose in the quart...

The PGA Tour got a bit stronger over the weekend, as both Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau released statements saying they’re both sticking with the tour and eschewing the much-ballyhooed rival Saudi Arabia-backed Super Golf League (SGL). “While there has been a lot of speculation surrounding my support for another tour, I want to make it very clear that as long as the best players in the world are playing the PGA Tour, so will I,” DeChambeau wrote. “As of now, I am focused on getting myself healthy and competing again soon. I appreciate all the support.” The two, as well as golf legend Ph...

Phil Mickelson apologized Tuesday for comments about the Saudis and a proposed super league – harsh words that “Lefty” says were off the record and not meant to be shared publicly. “It was reckless, I offended people, and I am deeply sorry for my choice of words,” he said. Nearly coming at the same time as Mickelson’s statement, KPMG became the first of his sponsors to cut ties, a decision the company said was mutual. “We wish him the best,” KPMG said in a statement. Mickelson said of his November words to author and golf writer Alan Shipnuck, “I’m beyond disappointed and will make every effor...

Last year on the 17th green at Waialae Country Club was the last—and only—time Kevin Na opened a green-reading book on the golf course. It was there that he needed a birdie-eagle finish to shoot 59 in the third round of the Sony Open. However, after reading the green for his 10-footer, he glanced at the book, adjusted his read, took the shot, and missed. He wound up winning the tournament with a 61, but nuts to the book, he thought. “It didn’t work out too well,” Na recalled Thursday, “so that was the last time I saw it.” Na’s longtime caddie, Kenny Harms, used to use the book to verify his in...
