More people now travel by bike than by car in the centre of Paris, according to a new report. The study by urban planning agency Institut Paris Region (IPR) found that Parisians use bicycles for 11.2 per cent of their trips inside the city centre whereas people use cars for just 4.3 per cent of journeys. It is a market increase from 2010 when IPR found that cycling accounted for just 3 per cent of trips in Paris. Drivers in the UK are being urged to place small “think bike” stickers on their wing mirrors to remind them to look out for those on two wheels. The UK's AA motoring club said fatality statistics show its campaign to get people to look out for cyclists, which was launched in 2014, is “as relevant today as it was 10 years ago”. An alliance of several transport associations has called on the German government to provide greater support for cycling and sustainable mobility. In a paper published in Berlin on Monday the associations representing car-sharing schemes, cyclists and public transport companies say Germany needs "equal conditions on the roads for all modes of transport.
