Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir has replaced the head of the railway authority on Tuesday, following a series of deadly train crashes in one month. Ashraf Raslan was removed from his position and will serve as an advisor to the minister, according to a ministry statement. A passenger train on Sunday derailed near Cairo, killing 11 people, the Egyptian Health Ministry said, in what is the latest in a series of rail mishaps in the country. Road accident kills 20 in southern Egypt
At least 20 people were killed when a bus collided with a truck on a highway in southern Egypt, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday. The accident, which took place on a desert highway near Assiut province, left three people injured. Victims were taken to nearby hospitals, the ministry added. The cause of the accident was not clear. Fatal road accidents are relatively common in Egypt and have often been blamed on poor road conditions and reckless driving.
