Demands for Cuomo’s resignation grow following additional sexual harassment allegations
ALBANY, N.Y. — Calls for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s resignation intensified Tuesday after a third woman came forward with sexual harassment accusations against the governor. Former allies and political foes alike are speaking out against the governor, including the progressive Working Families Party, which called for an end to Cuomo’s “reign of fear, harassment, and intimidation.” “We are calling on Governor Cuomo to resign immediately because he is unfit to serve the people of New York,” said WFP State Director Sochie Nnaemeka. Progressives on the Democratic governor’s left flank are increasingly jo...

Amazon hit with pay equity, racial discrimination lawsuit
A wage disparity exists at the highest levels of Amazon, where Black executives make less than their white co-workers doing the same job, according to a new lawsuit. And while the retail giant has cornered the market on delivering goods to at-home shoppers, the company has also revolutionized discrimination in the form of “de-leveling,” a tactic that employs Blacks and Hispanics at a level below the jobs they applied for, the lawsuit said. That’s what Amazon executive Charlotte Newman says happened to her. Despite being well-qualified for the senior manager role for which she interviewed, Newm...

Delta pays bonuses to managers; no profit-sharing payouts for workers
Delta Air Lines is paying out thousands of dollars of bonuses to its managers, even though there is no profit-sharing payout for workers this year. Atlanta-based Delta, which cut employees' pay last year amid a steep decline in travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is giving managers, directors and and senior vice presidents one-time payouts ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars. The management bonuses also come as airlines get billions of dollars in federal stimulus funding and push for passage of American Rescue Plan legislation including billions more in airline aid. How school boards get pulled into polarized politics
DETROIT — Some of the emails are thoughtful. Others are pleading. But many don't waste time on pleasantries. Bills to block mandatory worker vaccines falter in the states
Lawmakers in at least 23 states, often encouraged by vaccine skeptics, have proposed banning employers from requiring workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or other infectious diseases. Most bills are sponsored by Republicans, who say employees shouldn’t have to choose between getting a shot and staying employed. “I just kind of like the idea of personal freedom, and that’s one of my biggest things as a legislator,” said Republican state Sen. Dennis Kruse, who sponsored one such bill in Indiana. Although vaccines protect individuals and communities from disease outbreaks, online disinform...

Susan Tompor: Tax shocker awaits remote workers who hit the road
Many people who suddenly ended up working remotely during the pandemic in 2020 found themselves plopped at their kitchen table in front of a laptop. But more people than you might imagine hit the road and worked out of someone else's kitchen or spare bedroom, maybe visting a relative or a summer home, in another state. So what happens now at tax time? "Working remotely in another state may — and often does — subject the individual to tax in that state," said James O’Rilley, CPA and tax director for Doeren Mayhew in Troy, Mich. And some times, it could even drive up your overall tax bill, O'Ril...
