Michigan State stumbles in second half, gets upended by Purdue, 55-54
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State’s defense was on point again Friday night at the Breslin Center, but the offense decided to take most of the second half off as the Spartans hosted Purdue. That, and a decision to go small late in the game, cost No. 23 Michigan State as Purdue’s Trevion Williams hit a jumper with 4.5 seconds to play to give the Boilermakers a 55-54 victory. It was a stunning turnaround after Michigan State (8-4, 2-4 Big Ten) led by 17 early in the second half but then went more than 12 minutes without a field goal. Purdue took advantage, slowly chipping away, finally grabbi...

Bob Wojnowski: Ohio State thrashes Michigan State, now let the Michigan rivalry mind games begin
The Ohio State Buckeyes made their point as expected, despite missing most of their offensive line and their head coach. Justin Fields confirmed he’s magnificent, no matter who’s blocking or coaching, and the scarlet machine steamed on. Ohio State’s 52-12 thrashing of Michigan State Saturday said more about the Buckeyes than the Spartans, although Mel Tucker might disagree. Michigan State’s first-year coach did a low, angry seethe afterward, saying he was going to be “sick” when he watched the film. But sorry, this isn’t about the Spartans (2-4) being completely overmatched. This is about Ohio...

Why is Minnesota the only mainland state with an abundance of wolves?
MINNEAPOLIS — Long after wild wolves were wiped out of every other state in the “Lower 48,” dozens of wolf packs were somehow able to hang on and survive in remote areas of northern Minnesota. While Sharon Carlson of Andover has never heard Minnesota wolves howling or seen them in the wild, it’s always impressed her that the state became the last refuge in the contiguous United States for the revered and reviled predators. But she’s never understood how Minnesota came to be so important for the animals. She turned to the Star Tribune for help, asking: Why is Minnesota the only state in the “Lowe...
