  • Man living at O’Hare for 3 months without detection posts bail, ordered on electronic monitoring

CHICAGO — A man who was discovered living at O’Hare International Airport for at least three months has left Cook County Jail after posting bail. The Chicago Bail Project also helped secure an undisclosed place for Singh to live while he faces felony criminal trespass to a restricted area of an airport and misdemeanor charges. • Commentary: What Martin Luther King Jr. taught us about embracing our enemies

This year’s celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day comes less than two weeks after a violent white mob, inspired by entrenched racism and dressed up in Christian symbolism, attacked American democracy, leaving five people dead. As a Black Christian minister leading a nonviolent movement for civil rights, Martin Luther King Jr. came to know such mobs well. He faced them across the American South, and also right here in Chicago. What might we learn from how King dealt with such mobs in his own time? It is reasonable to believe that King would support holding people accountable for crimes comm...

  • Dahleen Glanton: White privilege — and the American caste system — was on display during the insurrection

When the insurrection on Capitol Hill was over, midlife Black men in navy blue custodial uniforms cleaned up the mess. The viral video of the janitors sweeping debris from the hallway was as telling as any image of the day. It told a story beyond the photos of white people scaling the exterior walls of the Capitol, breaking windows to gain entry or the man lounging in the House speaker’s office chair with his feet propped upon her desk. It was a resignation without a word spoken. As is often the case, Black people were left to clean up the mess, this time left by whites who stormed the Capitol...

  • James Bond inspired creation of Horowitz's 'Alex Rider'

An idea percolated in writer Anthony Horowitz’s brain for 10 years before anything came of it. But what came of it changed his life. Horowitz is the author of such works as “Foyle’s War,” “The Power of Five,” “The House of Silk” and the uber-popular “Alex Rider” series.“Growing up, books by Ian Fleming and the Bond films were a HUGE source of happiness for me,” recalls the British Horowitz.“I can remember waiting and waiting for December when the movie would be released. • What to stream: The best of Sean Connery

Over the weekend, iconic actor and first James Bond, Sir Sean Connery, passed away at age 90. Connery leaves an enduring cinematic legacy that isn’t just Bond, James Bond. Having originated the role, it’s impossible to think of Bond without thinking of Connery, arguably the gold standard of the character. However, as director Edgar Wright said on Twitter, “it says something for the extraordinary charisma of this Edinburgh lad to have created the most iconic character in film, and then, rather be typecast by it, become equally famous for just being Sean Connery.”On screen, Connery embodied a ce...
