A new study by Betway shows which U.S. states have the “rowdiest” concert crowds, and which behaviors at live shows people find to be most annoying. The company surveyed 2,057 Americans about which behaviors at concerts irritate them the most, and used the responses to uncover which states have the most aggressive audiences, and which have the friendliest. The states were ranked based on the average number of negative behaviors people reported experiencing at shows. Wisconsin was ranked the state with the highest average number of rowdy behaviors, with a score of 13.1. Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mas...

For decades, concerns about automobile pollution have focused on what comes out of the tailpipe. Now, researchers and regulators say, we need to pay more attention to toxic emissions from tires as vehicles roll down the road. At the top of the list of worries is a chemical called 6PPD, which is added to rubber tires to help them last longer. When tires wear on pavement, 6PPD is released. It reacts with ozone to become a different chemical, 6PPD-q, which can be extremely toxic — so much so that it has been linked to repeated fish kills in Washington state. The trouble with tires doesn’t stop th...

Climate change is making giant heat waves crawl slower across the globe - and they are baking more people for a longer time with higher temperatures over larger areas, a new study has found. Since 1979, global heat waves are moving 20 per cent more slowly - meaning more people stay hot longer - and they are happening 67 per cent more often, according to a study in Friday's Science Advances. Scientists also found the highest temperatures in the heat waves are warmer than 40 years ago and the area under a heat dome is larger. Studies have shown heat waves worsening before - but this one is more ...

A special samba drum class has been a refuge for Parkinson’s disease patients in Wales where they can move and socialise. Now researchers in neurogenerative diseases are planning a study to see if samba really can help ease people’s symptoms. Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disease caused by a loss of nerve cells. Due to a loss of the chemical dopamine, it affects body movement as well as mental health, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Parkinson’s patients experience problems with balance, standing, and walking and sudden rigidity as well as cognitive decline from dement...

A new strategy to fight an extremely aggressive type of brain tumour showed promise in a pair of experiments with a handful of patients. Scientists took patients’ own immune cells and turned them into “living drugs” able to recognise and attack glioblastoma. In the first-step tests, those cells shrank tumours at least temporarily, researchers reported on Wednesday. So-called CAR-T therapy already is used to fight blood-related cancers like leukaemia but researchers have struggled to make it work for solid tumours. Now separate teams at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Penns...

With the rise of Generative AI, the skills needed for jobs globally are expected to change by 68% by 2030, compared to 2016. Yet, a significant number of businesses across Europe are behind in helping their workforce train to use AI, according to a new report by LinkedIn. "While business leaders recognise that their employees will need new skills, less than half of companies in the UK, and just over a third in the Netherlands and France, are actively helping employees learn how to use this new technology," said Janine Chamberlin, Vice President and UK Country Manager, LinkedIn, to Euronews Bus...

A German man who was vaccinated against coronavirus 217 times in the last 29 months has reportedly shown no side-effects, according to a study published in the Lancet Infectious Diseases journal. The 62-year-old showed no sign of being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. The man, from Magdeburg in Germany, said he was vaccinated so many times for "personal reasons" according to researchers from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Researchers contacted the man after hearing about him from a newspaper and asked if they could undertake tests to examine his body's response to the multi...

If there's one thing Brits are good at, it's getting totally trolleyed - and expressing it in endlessly creative ways. Once the subject of a Michael McIntyre stand-up routine, in which the comedian argued that posh people can use any word to mean drunk in English, two German linguists took it upon themselves to research its truth. “We were curious to find out if the synonyms of “drunk” are used in similar contexts,” explained the study's co-author Professor Dr. Christina Sanchez-Stockhammer of Chemnitz University in a press release. The findings, published in the Yearbook of the German Cogniti...
