The Department of Justice has announced that federal law does not bar private businesses or public agencies from mandating COVID-19 vaccines. This announcement comes just hours after the Department of Veterans Affairs became the first federal agency to require some of its employees to be vaccinated. Under emergency use authorization by section 564 of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, businesses are not prohibited from requiring vaccines. In a memorandum opinion, issued by the deputy counsel to the president, the DOJ laid out legal requirements surrounding newly authorized vaccines: “In light o...

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey (R) said it’s “time to start blaming the unvaccinated” for rising COVID-19 cases and deaths in her state. When asked by reporters about what can be done to boost vaccination rates, Ivey responded: “I don’t know, you tell me! Folks supposed to have common sense.” “But it’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks,” she said. “It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down.” Alabama has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, with only 48.7% of the population age 12 and up receiving at least one dose. Additionally, only 39.6%...

During lockdown local families will have enjoyed walking amongst the trees planted by Bill and his colleag...

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s COVID book deal is worth more than $5.1 million, far exceeding the $225,000-a-year governor’s salary, his office said on Monday. The governor’s office had previously declined to release how much Cuomo made for the book, American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the Covid-19 Pandemic. State Attorney General Letitia James’ office is currently looking into whether or not Cuomo misused state resources for the book. Nonetheless, a spokesman has said that Cuomo’s work for the book was “in compliance with state ethics laws and done on their personal time.” James’ office is...

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Monday that, after a month-long review, it would authorize use of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine in adolescents aged 12 to 15 years old, making millions of people eligible for a vaccine.
