Prince Harry feared ‘history repeating itself’ before he and Meghan Markle left royal duties
Prince Harry seemingly offered an ominous comparison to the death of his mother, Princess Diana, in the first teaser for his and wife Meghan Markle’s sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey. “My biggest concern was history repeating itself,” the 36-year-old royal said in the 30-second video released by CBS Sunday night. In a second clip, sitting next to Meghan, 39, Harry said he couldn’t dream of surviving the chaos around his late mom as her marriage to Prince Charles fell apart. “I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side,” Harry told Winfrey i...

Lawyer: Sarkozy will appeal against bribery conviction and sentence
Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy plans to appeal against his conviction for bribery, his lawyer Jacqueline Laffont has announced. The sentence of one year's detention and two years suspended was "extremely harsh" and "unjustified," Laffont said. Sarkozy does not have to go to prison and can serve the sentence at home under electronic surveillance. The 66-year-old "obviously" contests the conviction, his lawyer added.

French film star Depardieu probed over rape allegations
French actor Gerard Depardieu, 72, is under investigation in France on allegations of rape and sexual assault, judicial sources told dpa on Tuesday evening. Suspect arrested after killing of French shelter manager
French authorities remanded a suspect in custody after the manager of a shelter for asylum seekers in the country's south-west was killed. The responsible public prosecutor said on Saturday that the 38-year-old man confessed to the crime. The suspect had wanted to get a document from the shelter in the city of Pau, where he had previously stayed, in order to prevent his imminent deportation to Sudan. His protection status had expired in November, and after a prison sentence he was in danger of losing it. As French media reported with reference to the public prosecutor's office, a terrorist mot...

French village says 'non' to Elon Musk's space-age internet
Saint-Senier-de-Beuvron (France) (AFP) - To realise his dream of satellite-powered internet, tech billionaire Elon Musk needs to install antennas around the world. In northern France, a village hopes he'll decide to keep those antennas far away. Saint-Senier-de-Beuvron, population 350, is none too thrilled to have been picked as a ground station for Musk's Starlink project for broadband from space. "This project is totally new. We don't have any idea of the impact of these signals," said Noemie Brault, a 34-year-old deputy mayor of the village just 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the majestic Mo...
