Lewiston (United States) (AFP) - When Kyle Green and his partner learned a gunman had just gone on a shooting spree near their home in Lewiston, Maine, they slowly lowered the blinds and told their children it was movie night. Locking all the doors, they sat down in front of a screen in a darkened upstairs bedroom with their two dogs and dozing kids, age 10 and 12, following the shooting deaths of at least 18 people at a bowling alley and bar-restaurant. With the suspect still on the run, Green, a 40-year-old software engineer who spoke to AFP in front of his house, said he and his partner "to...

Los Angeles (AFP) - The man charged with killing 10 people in a US supermarket shooting spree is not fit to stand trial, media reported Friday. Syrian-born Ahmad Alissa, 22, is accused of indiscriminately gunning down his victims in a Colorado store in March. He faces over 100 criminal charges, including 10 of first-degree murder, in connection with the mass shooting, for which neither he nor prosecutors have suggested a motive. Washington (AFP) - A disgruntled, heavily-armed employee shows up at work and murders nine of his colleagues: this week's carnage at a California rail yard is every American employer's worst nightmare come true. Samuel Cassidy, a 57-year-old white man, fired around 40 shots Wednesday at the public transport rail yard where he worked as a maintenance man in San Jose, California. He was not the first US employee to commit mass murder at work, and in a country awash with guns he is unlikely to be the last. From 1970 to 1990, employees or ex-employees of the US Postal System alone killed around 4...

Boulder (United States) (AFP) - Ahmad Alissa's chubby face in an undated photo released by police Tuesday contrasts with images of his arrest as the suspect in the Boulder, Colorado mass shooting -- that of a shirtless, shoeless man with blood covering one leg escorted away by two officers.
