As the baton of the G20 presidency passed from India to Brazil in December 2023, digitization has emerged as a focal point for both countries, with Big Tech and Artificial Intelligence at the center stage of conversation and deliberation, both for its benefits and regulations. But, does this enthusiasm for harnessing AI's benefits for their economies and ensuring control over emerging uses of AI overshadow something else? Bombs kill people. When someone provides bombs to a government at war, those weapons will be used to kill people. It's a simple fact but one that seems to have eluded Democrats. After voting to send bombs to the Israeli military, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D–Mass.) condemned the Israeli military for killing Palestinian civilians with an American-made bomb. And after urging the Israeli military to use smaller munitions, the Biden administration found itself scrambling to deal with a mass civilian casualty event caused by one of those smaller weapons. On Sunday, the Israeli Air Force bombed Tel al-S...

A one-year-old baby is a litigant in a case against the South Korean government over its ‘insufficient’ response to climate change. “Woodpecker”, as the baby boy is nicknamed, was not yet born when his parents filed the case on his behalf, alongside the parents of more than 61 children under the age of five. Illustration made by Global Voices. The administration of El Salvador's president Nayib Bukele has been marked by the adoption of measures that restrict citizens’ fundamental freedoms, censor open and inclusive debate on public matters, and limit freedom of expression, association, and assembly. This situation worsened in March 2022 with the declaration of a state of emergency, initially for one month, but periodically extended until May 25, 2024. How is the state of emergency experienced in El Salv...
