Israel has named General Shlomi Binder as new military intelligence director, the military said on Thursday. Binder's predecessor, Major General Aharon Haliva, resigned last month, saying he wanted to fulfil his leadership responsibilities following the "events of October 7." Militants from the militant Palestinian Hamas movement and other groups murdered more than 1,200 people in their massacre on October 7 last year and abducted around 250 and took them to the Gaza Strip. The former head of the German domestic intelligence service, Hans-Georg Maaßen, is taking legal action against his former agency. On Friday evening, a lawsuit was filed against the agency, formally known as the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, at the Cologne Administrative Court, Maaßen explained on Saturday when asked by dpa. The court was initially unavailable on Saturday to confirm receipt of the complaint.
