With spring practice in the books and the second transfer portal window closed, it’s time to kickstart our summer series evaluating 2024 positional unit rankings. I debuted the series with a look at the 10 best quarterback rooms, and then ranked Top 10 running back units in 2024, the best tight end rooms and the top receiver units this fall. We concluded the offensive side of the ball with the big uglies, ranking the Top 10 offensive line units this season. This week, we take a swing at the best defensive rooms. On Monday, I released my (semi-controversial???) Top 10 defensive line/edge units,...

While it might sound like a joke given the offensive product put on the field in 2023, it’s possible that Iowa could be a College Football Playoff entrant in 2024. Yes, Iowa, a team that averaged an FBS-worst 234.6 yards per game a year ago could be in the realm of making the 12-team CFP field. But given the rather friendly schedule draw and the fact that Iowa managed to go 10-2 and make the Big Ten Championship Game in 2023 with the worst FBS offense, On3’s Andy Staples and The Associated Press’ Ralph Russo don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility, even is it’s still a long shot. “Iow...

College football season is right around the corner. To get you ready for the upcoming season, Andy Staples and Cody Bellaire of On3 recently broke down every team in the Big Ten, including Iowa, and shared what to expect in 2024. Even with new teams coming into the Big Ten, the Hawkeyes have a manageable schedule next year. Beating Ohio State in Columbus is obviously unlikely, but Iowa shouldn’t be heavy underdogs in any of its other games. “Look, 10-2 is entirely realistic with this schedule, 11-1 might be realistic with this schedule. You’ve got Cade McNamara back. Now, the question is, do y...

Cooper DeJean is a very confident athlete, even when it comes to playing basketball against Caitlin Clark. DeJean’s recent comments went viral when he said he could beat Clark in a one-on-one game. Heck, the Philadelphia Eagles even posted DeJean admitting Clark would beat him in a close game, “if” she did. DeJean joined Kay Adams on her show Up and Adams to explain his side of the “beef”: “I mean, I was really just answering the question, but obviously, you know, Caitlin’s a special player,” DeJean said. “She’s done so much for women’s basketball as well and the University of Iowa in general....

Ryan Poles has been tasked with rebuilding the Chicago Bears, and he took a major step in doing that during the 2024 NFL Draft. However, outside of the first round picks, he also made the intriguing decision of taking Iowa Hawkeyes punter Tory Taylor in the fourth round. While making an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Poles explained the team’s decision to draft Taylor where they did. “I didn’t expect him to get much further,” Ryan Poles said. “Definitely didn’t think I’d be able to pick him up when we got to the fifth round, and really the thought process there is to make anyone we’re play...
