Radcliffe, who played boy wizard Potter in the wildly successful film adaptations of Rowling's best-selling books, has found himself at odds with Rowling on the thorny issue of gender identity. Rowling has faced accusations of transphobia for her stance emphasizing biological sex over gender identity, while Radcliffe has long campaigned for LGBTQ groups that defend the rights of trans women. Remember Jean-Jacques Annaud’s film The Name of the Rose, based on Umberto Eco’s historical mystery novel of the same name? In it, a Franciscan friar William of Baskerville (Sean Connery) heads to an abbey northern Italy to investigate a mysterious death – which turns into a series of untimely demises – linked to Aristotle’s "Second Book of Poetics", which describes how comedy can be used to teach. Believing jocularity to be instruments of the Devil, some devious bastard (we won’t spoil that part here) poisons the pages to stop the spread of dangerous ideas, and those reading the book would in...

Are you a card-carrying Jane Austen fan who’s always dreamt of deciphering the handwriting of an octogenarian from the 19th century? Niche, but no one’s judging your journey. The manuscript consists of 79 pages of handwritten text written in 1863. Though written in third person, Francis is believed to have penned it himself in his late 80s, which would explain why the neat handwriting devolves into chicken scratch in later pages. ...

Legendary playwright, filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning screenwriter David Mamet did not mince his words The scribe, who is behind The Untouchables, Glengarry Glen Ross, Oleanna, The Postman Always Rings Twice, and the very underrated Wag the Dog, talked about the entertainment industry’s efforts to drive greater diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in its ranks.
