Several weeks ago when I initially contemplated the subject of this article, I planned on tempering fans' expectations. Let's face it, Husker fans are well-known for ingesting their offseason Kool-Aid through an IV and have a reputation for anointing players as the second coming before they've earned it on the field. I'd heard about Dylan Raiola raising the eyebrows of scouts who were in attendance for Nebraska's Pro Day on March 20, after he'd been on campus for only two months and hadn't even started spring practices with the team yet. I'd talked with a couple people with connections to the ...

There is a difference between being a superstar quarterback and a celebrity in the world of football, but one guy who might be both as a college freshman is Dylan Raiola. Raiola is widely expected to be Nebraska's starting quarterback this fall after decommitting from Georgia last December and flipping to the Cornhuskers. His first performance on Nebraska's biggest stage -- Memorial Stadium -- happened last weekend in the Huskers' spring game, and his strong showing has Husker fans' hopes soaring. Tuesday night, he had the chance to enjoy a moment on a different stage. Country music artist Zac...

Due to a hectic sports weekend with the kids, I didn’t get to attend Nebraska football's Red-White Spring Game, or even watch it live. I had to wait and watch the BTN telecast later on. As I watched, a handful of things jumped out at me: Let's try to not overreact to a scrimmage. I'll be honest: after Raiola hit Janiran Bonner for a pretty touchdown on his first drive, I started dreaming big. The Kool-Aid flowed strong and sweet on Saturday. I saw many things that have me optimistic for the fall. There were three capable quarterbacks! Speedy, big play receivers! A serviceable running game! But...

Husker head football coach Matt Rhule got what he wanted Saturday in Nebraska's Red-White Spring Game. True to his word, he sat many of his frontline players and gave the less experienced players a chance to show what they could do under game-like conditions. The only problem was, not many fans knew who was in the game at any time. Compounding the problem was player names weren't displayed on the back of their jerseys. Fans needed a program to know who was who. There were quite a few regulars who didn't see action. Nash "Polar Bear" Hutmacher and Ty Robinson are well established defensive line...

Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts' abrupt departure to Texas A&M has had fans wondering if Husker head football coach Matt Rhule might be inclined to take his services elsewhere. Rhule, however, said Monday that he isn't going anywhere and is committed to building his program in Lincoln. In this special "House Call" installment of Husker Doc Talk, Dr. Rob Zatechka and Travis Justice discuss Rhule's remarks as well as what Alberts said during his introductory press conference Monday in College Station, Texas.

Adam sits down and just chats directly with "The People" in this episode. He believes that Matt Rhule has had a legit big offseason so far. Adam discusses the Huskers' position needs coming into the offseason and how Rhule addressed just about every single one of them. He talks about who he believes the impact players will be and why they're so important. Adam also addresses what some of Nebraska's other biggest needs might still be, in particular on offense. The addition of a new quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator is huge as well. There are a lot of things Adam has not discussed ...

Nebraska football, after a long period of wandering in the wilderness, finally appears to be headed in the right direction. Can Husker Nation enjoy the trip between now and Thanksgiving, at least without fretting about how soon the promised land is reached? That will come down to the level of trust felt by each individual fan. Matt Rhule appears to be making big strides gaining credibility among his current players, and the players he’s recruiting. Step 2 will be to gain the confidence of the constituency. With a freshman quite likely starting at quarterback, how high will Nebraska fans’ expec...

Is Matt Rhule the coach who runs quarterbacks out of town? About a week ago, you could find groups of disgruntled Nebraska fans who believed that to be true, maybe enough to fill a section of Memorial Stadium if you gathered them all together. At least, they talked loud enough to give you that impression, if speech on social media could register a decibel level. Just look at how he treated Casey Thompson last spring, they said. And now, they murmured, look at the way he’s mishandled potential transfer portal prize Kyle McCord. Lost him to Syracuse! I hear from those folks quite often. Once in ...
