Israel's communications minister signed a closure order for the broadcaster on Sunday, and Al Jazeera's office in the Ambassador Hotel in East Jerusalem was raided that same day. Israel accuses the channel of biased reporting in the Gaza war. Israeli Prime Minister Ben...

The move came after Israeli lawmakers recently approved a new media law - widely referred to as the "Al Jazeera law" - that gives the government powers to ban foreign broadcasters if they are deemed a risk to state security. Netanyahu announced the Cabinet decision in a post on X, formerly Twitter, in which he called Al Jazeera "the hate channel." Qatar-based Al Jazeera decried the Israeli decision and vowed to pursue "all avenues" available to protect its rights and emp...

Amid the Bundesliga broadcasting rights dispute with streaming service DAZN, the German Football League (DFL) told its 36 professional clubs that they are to receive less money than planned from the media rights income. "The instalment for June 2024 will be reduced from the original €127 million ($135.8 million) to €47 million," reads a DFL letter to the clubs, which was made available to dpa. The reason for that is the fact that €80 million from the current broadcasting rights deal was not received on the contractual due dates, the DFL said.
