By Sourit Sanyal On November 28, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced "mpox" as the new name for the monkeypox virus, which was quick to spread panic across the world earlier this year, including in India, when the first case was reported in Kerala back in July 2022. "Following a series of consultations with global experts, WHO will begin using a new preferred term "mpox" as a synonym for monkeypox.
