Sony Music is reportedly in talks to acquire the catalogue of legendary rock band Queen, including hits like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Radio Ga Ga'. The reports come from Bloomberg, who cite sources as saying that Sony is currently “working with another investor” on a transaction that “could potentially total $1 billion”. Bloomberg added that the negotiations “are ongoing and may not result in an agreement” but that a potential deal would include “merchandising and other business opportunities” - which includes rights to logos and music videos. Spotify increased its prices on Tuesday for new customers in France in response to the government's 'streaming tax'. The monthly premium subscription will be raised by 13 cents to €11.12, while the family plan will rise to €18.21 a month, a 22 cent increase. The student subscription will go up by 7 cents a month to €6.06. 18 cents will be also added to the two-person plan, bringing it to €15.17. Apple has revealed its top 100 albums of all time and some of the entries might surprise you. Some people on the internet aren’t happy about it. The UK government has rejected findings from the Misogyny In Music report published in January, much to the disappointment of music industry figures. Earlier this year, the Women And Equalities Committee (WEC) - a cross-party committee of MPs appointed to scrutinise the UK Government on equalities - held an inquiry into the music sector. The report looked at misogynistic attitudes in the industry and how these attitudes impact on the wider society. It found that women were underrepresented in key roles across the industry, that sexual harassment and abuse was common, and that many women did no...

Neil Young and Joni Mitchell begrudgingly returned their music to Spotify last month, two years after leaving the platform in protest of its largest podcaster, Joe Rogan. According to Young, Rogan was using the platform to spread misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic. “They can have Rogan or Young. Not both,” wrote Young to his manager at Warner Music Group. It turns out, Spotify can have both. And, no matter what you think of Young’s protest (or boycott, or whatever it was), his clash with Spotify is a reminder that tech giants have a funny way of getting what they want and resistance fr...

The hard rock legends Kiss have struck a mega-deal with Swedish company Pophouse Entertainment Group, selling their music catalogue, brand, and IP for over $300 million (€276m). This isn't the first collaboration between Kiss and Pophouse, which was co-founded by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus. When the band's current lineup - founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons as well as guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer - took the stage at the final night of their farewell tour in December at New York City's famed Madison Square Garden, they ended by revealing digitised avatars of themselves. The cutt...

Lizzo has explained that what she meant when she declared ‘I QUIT’ in a social media post doesn’t mean she is quitting music. “I wanted to make this video because I just need to clarify (that) when I say ‘I quit’, I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention,” she said in a new video. “What I’m not gonna quit, is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting the people, ’cause I know I’m not alone.
