American tourists are flocking to Tenerife in record numbers. 5.6 million tourists visited the Spanish island in 2023, and more than 26,000 came from the United States between January and September of 2023. Venice residents have rallied against a day-tripper fee for visitors, implemented to combat excess tourism. Visitors to Venice who fail to pay the entry fee to the historic city centre will face fines starting at 10 times the €5 ticket price. Amsterdam is banning the construction of new hotel buildings in its latest move to curb overtourism. The Dutch city is also limiting the number of overnight stays by tourists.
