The delivery of three new Belharra-class frigates to the Greek Navy, set to enhance the country’s defensive capabilities and strengthen defence cooperation with France at sea, is reportedly progressing as planned and within the expected timeframe. Two of the frigates have been launched and are currently undergoing sea trials before being handed over to Greece, while the third had its keel attached just this April. Frigates will not be ready for service until 2025 and 2026. Parts of the ships are being built at the Salamis Shipyards, on the Greek island of Salamis, with the advanced defence tec...

Ship pollution doesn’t tend to hold much attention unless something has gone seriously wrong. When the Marco Polo ferry ran aground off the coast of Sweden in October, the world watched its slow and leaky journey back to port, shedding tonnes of oil that reached more than 500 birds in Blekinge county. A ship attacked by Yemen's Houthi rebels has sunk in the Red Sea after days of taking on water, officials said Saturday. It is the first vessel to be fully destroyed as part of their campaign over Israel's war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The sinking of the Rubymar comes as shipping through the crucial waterway for cargo and energy shipments moving from Asia and the Middle East to Europe has been affected by the Houthi attacks. Already, many ships have turned away from the route. The sinking could see further detours and higher insurance rates put on vessels plying the waterway — potential...

Washington (AFP) - US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Thursday that he is concerned about the presence in the Atlantic Ocean of two Iranian vessels that are reportedly headed for Venezuela carrying arms. "I am absolutely concerned about the proliferation of weapons, any type of weapons, in our neighborhood," Austin said in response to a US senator during a congressional hearing. "And so, I share your concern." Asked by Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal whether the administration "knows exactly what is on those Iranian vessels," Austin was circumspect. "I would like to take that convers...
