Meta has set out its plans ahead of the 2024 elections. Sir Nick Clegg, president of global affairs at Meta - which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads - has laid out the measures it's putting in place to prevent misinformation and hate spreading as the battles for power commence. The Russian government has limited Twitter access in parts of Russia. The microblogging site is “aware” of the restrictions put on the platform and are “working” to keep it “safe and accessible” for its users. The UK government says a Facebook news ban must be avoided. Last month, Australia passed a new law forcing Google and Facebook to pay publishers for news content. The bill - called the News Media and Digital Platforms Mandatory Bargaining Code - requires the two companies to negotiate licensing agreements with publishers for news articles appearing on Facebook's feed and Google search.
