Steph Curry scores 35 points but Warriors fall to Trail Blazers, 108-106
In a nationally televised game billed as a matchup between MVP candidates, it took until the final minutes to get the duel between Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard so many had anticipated. Curry (35 points on 13-of-28 shooting, 5 for 14 from 3-point range) was the game’s high-scorer, but was bested by Lillard in the final 4 1/2 minutes, in which Lillard scored 10 points and drew a key charge as the Warriors fell to the Trail Blazers, 108-106, Wednesday night in Portland on ESPN. Following a disappointing effort against the Lakers Sunday, the Warriors (19-17) opened up the game with a 10-0 lead...

Blues power (play) their way past Ducks
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Through thick and thin, the Honda Center has been a friendly port in recent seasons for Blues hockey. That was the case once again Wednesday with the Blues winning their eighth straight at Anaheim, 3-2, with all three goals coming on the power play. The bad news is that the Blues don’t play at the Honda Center again this season. OK, maybe in the playoffs but the Ducks are last in the West at 6-12-5. As for the Blues (13-8-2), winners of three straight, their four remaining games with Anaheim will be played in St. Louis, beginning with a March 26 contest at Enterprise Center. ...

Villanova loses Collin Gillespie, but wins Big East regular-season title with a 72-60 victory over Creighton
VILLANOVA, Pa. — The excitement of Senior Night and the chance to win its seventh Big East regular-season championship in the last eight years Wednesday night made it an extra-special night at Villanova for its rematch against Creighton. But the enthusiasm was significantly dampened with 6 minutes, 38 seconds left in the first half when Collin Gillespie, the Wildcats’ point guard and floor leader, injured his left knee in a knee-to-knee collision with the Bluejays’ Damien Jefferson. And things looked like they were going to completely fall apart for the 10th-ranked Wildcats in the second half ...

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Magic went from a near-certain victory to a stinging defeat and now they’ll limp into the All-Star break on a five-game losing streak. Terry Rozier's big third quarter helps Hornets rout Timberwolves to go 3-3 on trip
The Charlotte Hornets blew out the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday to go 3-3 on their road trip. An 18-point third quarter by Terry Rozier put this one out of reach, with the Hornets leading by 30 midway through the fourth quarter of a 135-102 victory. The Hornets now have a week off for the All-Star break and they sure need it. Cody Zeller and Devonte Graham both missed this game, and P.J. Washington left in the second half with an ankle sprain. Rozier finished with 31 points, Gordon Hayward scored 23, and rookie point guard LaMelo Ball added 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Ri...

James Harden greeted by mix of cheers and boos as Nets beat Rockets in star’s return to Houston
The Nets’ offensive firepower is best summed up by Rockets head coach Stephen Silas’ frustration. With his team down 23 in the third quarter, Silas said he told his team just to chip away and get the deficit down to 10. The Rockets did just that, and were met with an 8-0 run that extended the game back out of reach. The Nets have enough offensive weapons to border on unfair, one superstar poached from the Rockets, another just as electrifying as Houston’s former MVP, and a third that has been out 12 of Brooklyn’s last 13 games due to both the league’s health and safety protocols and a hamstrin...

Plumlee, Smith each notch triple-doubles as Pistons dispose of Raptors, 129-105
With the Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors both missing players because of injuries and COVID-19 contact tracing, their matchup didn’t seem to have much flair. The Pistons were missing their top five leading scorers this season, but still played their most entertaining game of the season. The backups had a record-setting performance — with a pair of triple-doubles — and dispatched the Raptors, 129-105, on Wednesday night at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla, where the Raptors are playing their home games this season. Mason Plumlee had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists and Dennis Smith Jr. 10 po...

Missouri holds off Florida, wins on Dru Smith's buzzer-beating layup
Playing for the first time in more than a week at a place where no Missouri team has ever won, Cuonzo Martin’s Tigers came to Florida on Wednesday with postseason seeding stakes on the line. After weeks of stops and starts, perhaps this was indeed the turning point of Mizzou’s season. The Tigers can thank Dru Smith. The senior guard played like a first-team All-Southeastern Conference guard and scored the game-winning basket just before the final buzzer in a 72-70 victory, the finishing touches on one of the best games he’s played in two years for the Tigers. Smith finished with 17 points, nin...
