TfL, the local authority in charge of most of London's transport network, says it is owed millions in unpaid congestion fee charges from countries around the world. The top "culprit" is the US embassy which currently owes more than £14 million in charges which have remained unpaid since 2003, when the charge was first introduced. EU lawmakers rejected the inclusion of a life-cycle assessment methodology to account for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the transport sector during a plenary session in Brussels. So-called CountEmissionsEU, the accounting of GHG emissions of transport services law tabled by the European Commission in July 2023, aims to provide a single harmonised approach to tally emissions arising from vehicle manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal. Earlier this week lawmakers agreed by 58 votes in favour and 19 against to approve a report which would force transport companies making claims about the emissions of their vehicles to adhere to a single formula, but they remain at odds over how the formula should be calculated.
