The resilience of the Russian economy is without a doubt a key selling point for President Putin, who's been continuously leading Russia since 1999, either as President or Prime Minister. But it was not supposed to be the case. After the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, many large companies left Russia, and both the EU and US coordinated and renewed several rounds of sanction packages, aimed at impacting the Russian economy and indirectly help Ukrainians in their war effort. The 2022 escalation to a full-scale war was not the beginning of the conflict. That began with the invasion and annexation o...

Washington (AFP) - An acute labor crunch amid the coronavirus pandemic is boosting US wages, with many large chains now paying $15 an hour, a minimum level long sought by Democrats and labor activists. The disruption of Covid-19 has led to record job openings, but also millions of unemployed workers, some of whom dropped out of the labor force to stay home to take care of children. But some workers have used the pandemic to retire or try to change careers. Economists say that so far, the wage bump has not resulted in troubling inflation. New York (AFP) - US President Joe Biden's proposed minimum wage increase would cut 1.4 million jobs but lift 900,000 people out of poverty, according to a study released Monday. The proposal also would boost wages for another 27 million workers, according to a report by the Congressional Budget Office, that showed the overall increase in earnings outweighs those lost through the projected job cuts. The CBO report paints a mixed picture of the benefits of the plan to gradually lift the wage floor in the United States to $15 an hour by 2025 from the current $7.25. Biden has championed the increa...
