The FIFA Congress on Friday voted an amendment to the world football governing body's statutes to allow the awarding of two World Cup hosts at the same time. The decision is pending approval of the FIFA Council and could lead to both the 2030 and 2034 editions being signed off at the same time, with Saudi Arabia set to be awarded the latter. FIFA president Gianni Infantino said that a virtual Congress would be held on December 11 to "potentially" decide on the 2030 and 2034 hosts. The process is more of a formality, since there is only one bid for each year. Morocco, Portugal and Spain made a ...

German Football Federation (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf said he was holding many talks in the final countdown to the Bangkok vote to convince FIFA members of the bid, with Brazil the only rival. "We'll throw everything into it to make sure we come out on top at the end of the day after all," Neuendorf said. "We are very confident. We believe that we have submitted an excellent bid and will do every...

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß said during a testimony on Monday that he knew nothing about the purpose of an alleged payment from French entrepreneur Robert Louis-Dreyfus to the late German football great Franz Beckenbauer. "I don't know what the money was for," Hoeneß said and ruled out the possibility that the money was used to buy votes to award Germany the 2006 World Cup. "FIFA was a pretty corrupt bunch back then. You could even think about buying a World Cup. But I'm still convinced that the German Football Federation (DFB) and Germany didn't do that. I'm sure of that," Hoe...

Switzerland's Marco Odermatt clinched a first career downhill World Cup trophy and a fourth overall in one season without skiing when the final downhill race was cancelled on Sunday in Austria. Overnight snowfall, piste problems and high winds did not make racing possible in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, with the cancellation coming after two delays and all efforts in vain to make the last 2023-24 race happen. The cancellation means that Odermatt retained his 42-point lead over French skier Cyprien Sarrazin to win the discipline trophy. Odermatt won the downhill world title last year but only managed ...
