Jaguars LT Cam Robinson Facing PED Suspension

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 19: Offensive lineman Cam Robinson #74 of the Jacksonville Jaguars practices in the pouring rain before facing the Tennessee Titans at TIAA Bank Field on September 19, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Cam Robinson is reportedly facing a multigame suspension for a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. The extent of the suspension will not be determined until further tests results are available.

Sources confirmed to ESPN Thursday that Robinson was under investigation and was already considered to be in violation of the league’s policy. The test league officials are waiting for is known as a B sample and is used to confirm results from the primary test. As a first-time offender, Robinson could be suspended for two, six or eight games. Repeat offenses can result in suspensions ranging from 10 games to multiple seasons.

Before the 2022 season, Robinson signed a three-year, $52.75 million extension, but ESPN’s Field Yates reported that the left tackle could lose $888,888 for every start he misses due to suspension. He is also an integral member of Jacksonville’s offensive line, one that effectively protected breakout quarterback Trevor Lawrence on the way to a postseason run last year.

After three seasons at the University of Alabama, Robinson elected to enter the NFL Draft early in 2017. He was selected by the Jaguars in the second round with the 34th overall pick. He has since started in 75 games for the team, though he missed the end of last season with an injury. Coaches confirmed earlier this month that he was physically healthy and would be prepared for the start of the season.

If Robinson is unavailable at the start of the season, the team will likely replace him with recent signee Josh Wells, who could fill in directly at left tackle or simply fill in somewhere else as players shuffle around. Wells most recently played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but played for Jacksonville from 2014 to 2018. Players like Robinson are not often noticed on the field when they’re effective, but the loss of a lineman may or may not have a significant impact on the team’s offense.
