The Miami-Dade Police Department confirmed that it is still investigating Tyreek Hill for allegations of assault and battery following an incident at Haulover Marina last week. Reports are conflicting as to whether or not the alleged victim, an employee at the marina, plans to press charges.
Hill was reportedly with a group celebrating Father’s Day fishing on a boat owned by the Kelley Fishing Fleet. Hill and two women entered a boat at the marina but hadn’t chartered the boat and also weren’t permitted to fish in the area. When a captain and employee went to confront the group, video footage on social media shows Hill slapping the employee and trying to charge him before getting restrained by others with him.
Surveillance footage of the incident allegedly captured Hill identifying himself by his number, 10, on the Miami Dolphins and claiming that he could “buy you and the boat.”
If proven guilty of misdemeanor assault, an individual in Florida can spend up to 60 days in jail and face a fine of up to $500. Hill has previously been investigated for child abuse in 2019 following an incident involving his three-year-old son. No charges were filed on that occasion.
The Miami Dolphins released a short statement following the incident, claiming that they contacted Hill without providing further details.
“We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Tyreek, his representatives and the NFL. We will reserve further comment at this time.”
Even if Hill faces a nominal punishment for a guilty charge, he could face further issues with the NFL’s various internal policies, which typically take effect after legal processes play out in their entirety. In addition to any legal ramifications for this offense, Hill could also face a suspension or fine from the league if found guilty in court.
In his first season with the Dolphins in 2022, Hill compiled a career-high 1,710 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl honors for a seventh straight year and played an integral role in guiding Miami to the postseason.
