Trump Lawyer L. Lin Wood Retires After Facing Disbarment For Effort To Overturn 2020 Election

LOS ANGELES, CA - DECEMBER 03: Attorneys L. Lin Wood (C) and Mark Stephen (L) speak to the media about their client, British rescue diver Vernon Unsworth (rear), as they arrive at US District Court on December 3, 2019 in Los Angeles,...

Republican lawyer L. Lin Wood, a key promoter of false election fraud claims in 2020, is now facing court-imposed sanctions for his role in helping former client Donald Trump try to overturn the election.

The Georgia Bar held a disciplinary trial for Wood in May, after a Michigan attorney regulatory agency filed a misconduct case against Wood for election fraud lawsuits. This month, he was accused of defamation by a former colleague from the QAnon movement.

On Tuesday, Wood sent a letter to the Georgia Bar requesting he be given “retirement status,” which would prohibit him from ever practicing law in the state again. This motion would also end any disbarment efforts that Wood would otherwise face.

As the probe into Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election ramps up, many of his supporters are facing legal troubles. In addition to Wood, pro-Trump lawyer John Eastman is also facing disbarment for his fraudulent claims in 2020. Attorney Rudy Giuliani was alsorecently interviewed about his role in the attack on the capitol in 2021. The D.C. Bar Association has recommended that Giuliani be permanently disbarred for his actions.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who is leading the investigation, is also moving to investigate whether or not Trump himself pushed the narrative of election fraud while knowing that President Joe Biden rightfully won.

Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of charging Trump, along with his allies.
