‘Home Improvement’ Star Zachery Ty Bryan Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges For Second Time

Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested

Zachery Ty Bryan, who is an actor best known for playing Brad Taylor on Home Improvement, was arrested on Friday on charges of felony assault. This incident follows a 2020 arrest for assaulting Johnnie Faye Cartwright, his girlfriend at the time.

On Sunday, reports came out that police had responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in Eugene, Oregon. Bryan was not at the scene when police arrived but was tracked down and taken to jail. The name of the victim has not been disclosed.

In October 2020, Bryan was arrested for fourth-degree assault and strangulation. He later pled guilty to two misdemeanors of menacing and assault.

Earlier this year, Bryan told The Hollywood Reporter that his arrest “got so blown out of proportion” by media outlets and explained that the interaction was not as physical as the police report said.

“We didn’t even really get that physical,” Bryan recalled. “We were screaming, and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear… [The police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something.”

Cartwright accused Bryan of being abusive in the weeks prior to the incident, stating that he “pulled her hair,” punched her in the face and “choked her” for nearly a minute.

Bryan and Cartwright are still in a relationship and have been engaged since 2021. They share three children.

Besides his assault charges, Bryan was arrested for a DUI in May 2020. He pled guilty and was sentenced to five years of probation and 18 months in an alcohol program due to previous DUI charges in 2004, 2007 and 2017.

On Home Improvement, a teenage Bryan became a star. He then made appearances on popular TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Burn Notice and Veronica Mars. He later played the villain in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, but shortly after, he quit acting. Since then, he has publicly opened up about his struggles with alcohol abuse and finding a life path following his acting career.
