Danelo Calvacante, the convicted murderer from Pennsylvania who escaped prison on August 31, was captured on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old was convicted of stabbing his girlfriend in front of her young child in July. He is also wanted on a homicide charge in his native Brazil.

The Pennsylvania State Police held a press conference on Wednesday morning to announce the news. Lt. Col. George Bivens said that authorities started to get closer to Calvacante around midnight on Wednesday. Police were able to monitor his movements using an overhead air source and surrounded Calvacante at around 8:00 a.m.

According to officials, Calvacante did not know he was being surrounded as he tried to crawl through a bush, holding a rifle that he had previously stolen. Law enforcement employed a dog to “subdue” the criminal.

Since his escape from the Chester County Prison, authorities have repeatedly warned that Calvacante was “extremely dangerous.” He was sighted multiple times throughout the past few weeks, though law enforcement was unable to track him down until Wednesday.
