Indicted New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez’s wife, Nadine Menendez, hit and killed a pedestrian in 2018 at around 7:30 p.m. on December 12, 2018.

Nadine, who was dating the senator at the time, was allowed to leave the scene without being taken into custody or a sobriety test. Police did not conclude that Nadine was at fault or face any charges with the crash.

The victim has been identified as Richard Kopp, a 49-year-old man.

Bob and Nadine were both indicted last month, following an investigation into their business dealings with people who had ties to the Egyptian government. The indictment alleges that the couple received hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and gold bars for bribes in exchange for protecting three businessmen.

Two of the businessmen involved, Wael Hana and Jose Uribe, financed a 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-300 convertible for Nadine after the 2018 incident. Nadine hit the man with a black Mercedes, which they helped to replace.
