An armed man who appeared to be planning to open fire on Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado on Saturday killed himself before doing so.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s office said park officials found the man, 20, inside the park before it opened to the public. Authorities have reported that he broke into the park while it was still closed, armed with an AR-style rifle, a handgun and explosives. He was found wearing body armor.

Sheriff Lou Vallario said that a message was found on the wall of the women’s bathroom, which read, “I am not a killer, I just want to get into the caves.”

The park is known for its cave adventure attraction.

“While this investigation is still ongoing and very active it is important to realize that given the amount of weaponry, communication and explosive devices found, the suspect could have implemented an attack of devastating proportions upon our community and first responders,” said Garfield County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Walt Stowe in a statement.

Investigations into the man’s death as a possible suicide are still being conducted.
