Why did YOU go to Japan?

Why did YOU go to Japan?

There was a foreign visitors riding a bicycle in the castle town of Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture. The bright red cycling clothes and road bikes really stand out.

"Excuse me! Can I ask you something? What are you doing here?"

Smiling, he replied, ``I'm practicing cycling.''

“Are you a tourist?”

"No, I live in this town. If you'd like, why don't you come visit me? Welcome."

We arrived at a stylish old private house in the castle town, about a 5-minute walk from Nakatsu Castle. ``SUEHIROYA'' is written on the curtain.

SUEHIROYA

This old-fashioned building is his home. This is no ordinary house. This is an inn where foreign visitors tourists and cycle tourists can stay.
What makes us happy is that road bikes, which are important companions for cycle tourists, are carefully stored indoors.

Host couple Jason and Teruyo

From Hawaii to Nakatsu!

Jason and Teruyo, who had been living in Hawaii, happened to return to Teruyo's hometown of Oita Prefecture when they came to Nakatsu City to investigate whether Teruyo's ancestors might have something to do with the castle. Ta.

When I walked around the castle town, I was fascinated by the compact town planning and flat roads, and decided I wanted to live here.

Turn a miso shop into a guesthouse!

When I was looking for a property to live in in a castle town, I came across an old folk house.

It used to be a miso shop, but architect Jason worked with a local carpenter to do major renovation work.
It has now been transformed into a stylish old folk house that combines retro and modern elements.

"We were living in Hawaii. We had a lot of Japanese-American friends there, and if they came to Japan, we wanted to welcome them like family, so we decided to make it a guest house."

Jason and Teruyo told us their thoughts.

Nowadays, tourists and cycle tourists come not only from Hawaii but also from various countries and regions.
It is also loved by locals as a venue for events and home parties.

We warmly welcome our customers with Teruyo's Hawaiian and Japanese cuisine, Jason's special interior design, and fun events planned together with locals.

Mr. Teruyo utilizes his career working at a travel agency to coordinate custom-made tours for overseas tourist groups.
