German camera and optics manufacturer Leica reported on Tuesday that its annual turnover hit a record level for the third time in a row.

The venerable brand based in the town of Wetzlar, near Frankfurt, posted revenue of €485 million ($522 million) in the 2022-23 fiscal year that ended last March.

This was an increase of 9% compared to the previous financial year.

The Leica Camera Group, which is owned by majority shareholder Andreas Kaufmann and US investor Blackstone, does not publish profit figures.

Leica has received strong reviews for its new M11-P 35mm film camera.

The company touts the M11-P as a stand against fake photos and artificially generated images, with special hardware providing the image files with digital copyright certificates.

With new products in the pipeline and the expansion of its global sales network, the company said it expects a positive sales trend in the current financial year.

Leica shops have been opened recently in Paris, Mexico City, Amsterdam and New York.

In addition to the well-known cameras and sports optics equipment, the company is also active in other business areas. It sells the Leitz Phone, but so far only in Japan, and aims to to enter the home cinema market with a TV projector.
