Leeds United could now see £15.5m talent sign for Chelsea after missing out on him last year

Leeds United could now see former target Milos Kerkez move to Chelsea after impressing in his first season with Bournemouth.

Leeds United spent on a new left back in 2021, landing Junior Firpo from Barcelona.

That was seen as an important signing but Firpo blew hot and cold in the Premier League.

Leeds were therefore linked with adding another left back in January of 2023 as Jesse Marsch looked to keep the club afloat.

Max Wober ended up arriving to reunite with Marsch, offering an option to play at left back and centre back.

Leeds did look at other options though, and one target from January 2023 may now feel like the one that got away…

Milos Kerkez wanted after Leeds United interest

A report from talkSPORT back in January 2023 suggested that Leeds were keen on signing Milos Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar.

It was suggested that Leeds wanted to battle Bournemouth and Leicester City for Kerkez.

A £15million fee was wanted but Leeds didn’t pull the trigger – end then ended up going down to the Championship.

That ruled Leeds out of the race for Kerkez and he instead signed for Bournemouth, where he has impressed this season.

The Cherries paid £15.5million to lure Kerkez to the Vitality Stadium and that now looks like money very well spent.

Reporter journalist Ben Jacobs – while speaking with The United Stand – suggested this week that both Chelsea and Manchester United fancy signing Kerkez.

The Hungarian international is viewed as a top left back for the future having already impressed in the Premier League at the age of just 20.

Kerkez may well land himself a huge move this summer, and that would sting a little for Leeds.

Missing out on a talented player always hurts, but seeing him move for big money just 18 months later is tough to swallow.

Kerkez may well be one that got away for Leeds and the Whites will just have to hope to find similar talents elsewhere, especially if they secure promotion back to the Premier League.
