Steven Gerrard is often lauded as one of the best to ever do it when it comes to midfielders and James Maddison seems to be in full agreement.
Gerrard, a legend of Anfield after making more than 700 appearances for the club and scoring nearly 200 goals, has been tipped for some time to become Liverpool manager one day.
However, a failed spell in charge of Aston Villa after doing so well at Rangers and then a subsequent move to Saudi Arabia seem to have left those hopes in tatters.
But in terms of his actual playing days, few can doubt he is one of Liverpool’s all-time greats.

Ranking random top footballers from one to ten, Maddison remarked ‘Easy, number one’ when Gerrard’s name appeared.
Maddison and Werner’s choice put Gerrard above top players like Casemiro, Paul Pogba, another Liverpool legend, Fernando Torres, and more.

Yes, it’s a bit of fun but there was no doubt in their minds here as to where Gerrard was going on a list that already contained the likes of Torres, Makelele, and Ruben Dias.
In fairness, for players like Maddison, Gerrard is simply someone to look up to and admire. Barring winning the Premier League title, Gerrard did it all for Liverpool and is rightly seen as one of the best to ever do it.
