American bobsledder crashes in all four runs at worlds but not last

American bobsleigh pilot Riley Tejcek crashed in all four runs of the two-woman competition at the world championships but still didn't finish last on Saturday.

Tejcek and push athlete Jasmine Jones crashed at the end of the final turn in the first two heats on Friday but could continue because the sled crossed the finish line.

On Saturday, Tejcek and new partner Jestena Mattson tipped over again at the same place but still qualified for the fourth and final run where they crashed again a little earlier.

Despite the mishaps they finished 20th from 24 teams in the final round of the competition where hosts Germany claimed a medal sweep led by Lisa Buckwitz and Vanessa Mark.

"It is so difficult here. But I am competing with the best in the world, that makes me proud. But my heart is broken as an athlete," Tejcek said after the four mishaps which ended without major injuries.

Tejcek, a captain in the US Marine Corps, had her first race in January 2021 and made her World Cup debut in November 2022. She is aiming to compete at the 2026 Olympics in Italy.
