Piers Morgan recalls Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp in assessment of one Arteta signing

Broadcaster and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has now shared his verdict on Declan Rice.

Declan Rice has been a revelation at Arsenal this season.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been a powerhouse presence in the middle of the park for the north London club. His physicality, stamina, and endless determination to battle for the ball have all helped to make the Gunners an incredibly tough team to break down.

Arsenal can boast an exceptional defensive record in the Premier League. No side in the division has conceded fewer goals than Mikel Arteta’s men. Rice has played a huge part in this solidity, as he is so adept at breaking up opposition counter-attacks.

Arsenal paid a club-record £105 million fee to prise Rice away from West Ham United in the recent summer transfer window. Such a price tag could have weighed heavily on the player and impacted his performances. Instead, the England international has flourished in the spotlight. Many Arsenal fans are now totally convinced that Rice was worth every penny that was paid for him.

The club deserve credit for backing Arteta in the market to such an extent, and for pushing the boat out as far as they did to land their top target.

Piers Morgan heaps praise on Declan Rice

Piers Morgan is certainly convinced that the capture of Rice has to go down as a huge transfer market success story. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said, “if you ask me above all else what has been the difference – Declan Rice. I think Declan Rice has been the best signing Arsenal have made since Dennis Bergkamp back in the mid 90s.”

Dennis Bergkamp had a seismic impact upon his arrival at Arsenal 1995, and helped to usher in a new era of success at the club, as he played a key role in helping Arsenal to Premier League title triumphs in 1998, 2002, and 2004.

If Arsenal are to be crowned champions this season, then Rice will certainly have played a huge role in that success. It is vital that he is able to remain fit and in-form for the rest of the current campaign.

Arteta has made some very smart signings in his time as Arsenal manager. The likes of Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko, amongst others, have all raised the level at the club since being brought in. Rice could well prove to be the real game-changer though, just as Bergkamp once was.
