Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner cruised into the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters along with Germans Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber on Sunday.

Alcaraz said he played "almost a perfect match" as he made short work of Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime, 6-2, 6-3, setting the tone with seven straight games from 2-1 down to take the opening set and go 2-0 up in the second.

In-form Sinner meanwhile dispatched Germany's Jan-Lennard in straight sets as well, 6-3 6-4 to improve to 14-0 this year, and Stefanos Tsitsipas ousted American Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-3.

"It's pretty tough. I knew that he's a big server and going for shots, so I tried to stay as aggressive as he was," Sinner said.

Sixth-seeded Olympic champion Zverev did not drop a set either as he beat Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 7-6 (9-7), 6-3, after fending off five set points in the opening set.

But fifth seed Andrey Rublev went out, 6-4, 6-4, against Czech player Jiri Lehecka.

On the women's side, former world number one Kerber continued her winning streak after her maternity break and defeated Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 7-5 in the third round.

The 36-year-old will face Caroline Wozniacki in the round of 16. The Dane came out of retirement last year after a three-year break during which she also had a baby, and beat American Katie Volynets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 on Sunday.

Kerber returned to action in January, and had won just one of her seven matches coming to Indian Wells where she now has three wins.

"It's another important match-win for me, for sure, and gives me confidence for the next rounds," Kerber said, adding she was "on a good way to again playing good tennis against the best players.

Looking ahead at the duel of mothers and former grand slam champions with Wozniacki, she added: "We will try to play a good match, having a good battle out there. We are friends now, and we will be still friends after a match."

Wozniacki said: "It's going to be a great match. We know each other extremely well. It's really going to be about who is going to be better on the day. It can go either way."

Women's world number one Iga Swiatek won the last 10 games from 4-2 down in the opening set to oust Czech teenager Linda Noskova, 6-4, 6-0.
