Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marcel Sabitzer was on Tuesday banned for two matches over a red card offence and as a result will miss the big game against his former club Bayern Munich.

Sabitzer was sanctioned by the German Football Federation (DFB) for a foul against Werder Bremen's Mitchell Weiser.

Dortmund pleaded in vain for a one game suspension as Sabitzer will now miss Sunday's game against Eintracht Frankfurt and the date with Bayern after the international break on March 30.

Sabitzer joined Dortmund in summer from Bayern. Dortmund in fourth are one point ahead of Leipzig in a fight for the final Champions League slot. VfB Stuttgart in third are six points ahead of them.
