Italian police pull over 103-year-old traffic offender

Police in Italy have stopped what is believed to be one of the oldest traffic offenders of all time with no driving licence, no insurance, but a proud 103 years old.

The pensioner, born in 1920, was driving her car in the centre of the small northern Italian town of Bondeno in the middle of the night, authorities said on Tuesday.

She attracted attention because she was driving quickly but repeatedly through the same streets at around 1 am (0000 GMT).

During the check, a police patrol discovered that her driving licence had been expired for two years. In addition, the old lady no longer had insurance for her car. As a result, the vehicle was confiscated and taken away by a tow truck.

The woman herself was taken home by the police. According to her own account, she had set off to visit friends out of town.

Bondeno is located in the Emilia-Romagna region and has a population of around 15,000.
