England defender Eric Dier hopes to return into Gareth Southgate's squad for this summer's European Championships in Germany with good performances at Bayern Munich.

Dier, 30, arrived at the Bundesliga champions in January from Tottenham Hotspur, initially on loan but the deal is now permanent until 2025 because he reached a certain number of matches.

He is a regular starter in Munich's central defence and he told Monday's edition of Kicker sports magazine he hopes that this will help him make the Euros.

"As a player you must simply concentrate on your club performances and perform there. Everything else is not in my hands. I must do my best here at Bayern - and then we will see in summer," he said.

The 49-times capped Dier was not picked by Southgate for upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. He played at Euro 2016 and the World Cups in 2018 and 2022 but would enjoy another big tournament after not being part of the squad at the last Euros in 2021.

"A European or world championship is unbelievable. The atmosphere is like a carnival in summer. People are in a good mood, are outdoors and celebrating," he said.

"The English fans will feel very good in Germany, there is very good beer here."

Dier was reunited at Bayern with former Spurs team-mate Harry Kane who leads the Bundesliga scoring charts with 31 goals, just 10 shy of the league record 41 from Robert Lewandowski with eight games left.

Dier said he was not sure whether England captain Kane can reach that mark but he said "I know that Harry will always score his goals.

"For me, he is the player with the best finish in the world. He is simply very consistent, very focussed," he said.

"Strikers cost the most money because it is nowhere easy to score. At the moment only [Manchester City's] Erling Haaland and Harry have this quality as a typical striker."
