Italian media deliver interesting verdicts on Djed Spence’s display vs Juventus yesterday

Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence got 90 minutes under his belt as Genoa picked up a draw at Juventus on Sunday.

The full-back was involved in the deal which saw Radu Dragusin sign for Tottenham in January.

Djed Spence will spend the remainder of the campaign at Genoa, with the Serie A outfit having the option to buy the defender for a fee worth around £8.5 million this summer.

Since leaving north London, the 23-year-old has racked up seven appearances for Genoa in the league.

His latest display came in Turin as Genoa picked up an unlikely point at the Allianz Stadium.

Media deliver verdict on Spence after Juventus vs Genoa

Virgilio Sport handed the Spurs loanee a 6.5 rating for his display in the goalless draw on Sunday.

The outlet wrote: “He counter-attacks and keeps Kostic at bay on his lane side. Quick on the restarts, not bad in the offensive phase. Skilled in closing down opponents.”

Spence was also voted a 6.5 on Sky Sports Italy, with only two Genoa players receiving a higher rating.

Calciomercato were sightly less generous as they handed Spence a six but he received praise for his determination.

They wrote: “He suffers a little when he is targeted, but never gives up.”

Of course, Spence’s loan move to Leeds United was cut short in January in what was another disappointing moment for the defender.

Since joining Tottenham back in the summer of 2022, it’s fair to say that Spence has struggled to find any kind of momentum. But he seems to be benefitting from more regular opportunities at Genoa.

While he didn’t exactly star at Juventus yesterday, he helped Genoa keep a surprise clean sheet against the Italian giants.

There have been claims that Spence has no future at Spurs while Ange Postecoglou remains at the club.

Yet, the former Nottingham Forest loanee has recently insisted he wants to play for Tottenham once again and it will be intriguing to see how his future unfolds.
