Airbus announced on Tuesday that it will not enter into a takeover of the data and cybersecurity unit of French IT service provider Atos.

"After careful consideration of all aspects of a potential acquisition of Atos' BDS (Big Data and Security) business line, Airbus has decided it will no longer pursue discussions with Atos about this potential transaction," the aircraft manufacturer said.

According to earlier information from Atos, Airbus had valued BDS at €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) to €1.8 billion, including debt.

Atos said in a statement that it was "analysing the resulting situation and actively evaluating strategic alternatives that will take into consideration the sovereign imperatives of the French state."

ATOS has been looking to dispose of the unit on account of losses and high debts.
