Report: David Moyes changes mind about 'underrated' West Ham 28-year-old ahead of key decision

Kalvin Phillips has made a dismal start at West Ham United after choosing to join the Hammers on loan from Manchester City – and David Moyes has now changed his mind about the England player.

The 28-year-old opted to join West Ham on loan in January after playing just 31 times for City over the course of 18 months. His incredible Leeds form died off, with a lack of game time under Pep Guardiola.

He moved to West Ham but after mistakes against Bournemouth and Manchester United, he has lost his starting spot. He was an unused sub on Sunday, drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa. Moyes overlooked Phillips.

Indeed, Phillips – described as “underrated” on West Ham’s website – missed out on the latest England squad to face Brazil and Belgium this month. When signed, a permanent deal seemed a real possibility.

But, a report from Give me Sport claims Moyes has changed his mind about Phillips and is now unwilling to land the Leeds academy player on a permanent deal. Moyes is unlikely to push the board for Phillips.

West Ham boss David Moyes changes mind about Kalvin Phillips

Danny Murphy recently claimed – albeit, before the England squad was picked this month – that from what he has heard, Phillips will still be in England’s Euro 2024 squad. Tomas Soucek is a big fan of his.

It leaves Phillips in limbo somewhat, only two years into a six-year contract at The Etihad. This summer, you would imagine Phillips will be leaving City regardless. It looks unlikely that it would be West Ham.

What Phillips does have, is that West Ham still have plenty of games to play with Moyes’ side in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. There are opportunities for Phillips to get back to his best.
